Surrounded by attractive countryside and the legendary wooded escarpment, from which Alderley Edge takes its name, the surrounding area is pleasant walking and cycling country, with the Cheshire Cycleway passing nearby.
The Edge itself, with its legends, old mines and panoramic views, makes a fascinating visit.
If you take the steep climb from the village centre, The Edge is only 1.5 miles away. This spectacular National Trust woodland and dramatic sandstone escarpment, riddled with caves, provides spectacular views across Cheshire.
The area is the setting for Alan Garner's novel The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and King Arthur and his men are said to sleep somewhere beneath the sandstone cliffs.
Alderley Edge village is home to a number of speciality food shops, restaurants, clothes shops and stylish bars. Farmers markets are held on the 2nd Sunday of each month at the Festival Hall.
